Mile Repeats (Zilker Loop)
1) 6:58
2) 6:54
3) 6:56

Seriously, I've been kind of a slacker with speedwork lately. Apparently, I have to adjust my speed perceptions. Maybe I really am slacking?

I think I was naughty last year too!
Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

In November I put gum in [info]sneaker_chic's hair (-12 points). Last Thursday I pulled over and changed [info]nancyl06's flat tire (15 points). In August I committed genocide... Sorry about that, [info]shubbe (-5000 points). Last Wednesday I helped [info]mizmizuno see the light (8 points). Last month I ruled Asscrackistan as a cruel and heartless dictator (-700 points).

Overall, I've been naughty (-5689 points). For Christmas I deserve a moldy sandwich!

Sincerely,
trichellee

NYC Marathon

Okay, so I haven't written a race report, but honestly I don't know how much there is to write.

It was the first time I'd run NYC and this was my sixth marathon (not including the marathons at the end of an Ironman). I arrived at Staten Island at 6:15 am and hung around till about 9:45am when they started moving the corals towards the start. I had a  low number F2032, which meant I got to be on the top bridge and one of the first thouasand people to cross the start. There was a moment of silence before the race for Ryan Shae who died in the trials the day before. Then, with a bang, we were off. It took only a minutes for me to cross the starting mats and the speakers were playing, " start spreading the news..."

I really just tried to take it all in and focus on my pace. Crossing the Queensboro bridge into Manhattan was something else and for a brief moment I felt like a million bucks with all the spectators cheering loudly. It was purely amazing to see all the runners around me and all the people on the side of the course.

Somewhere around Harlem, I began to feel some knee pains. My lungs still felt great, but my legs would only let me go so fast. So after arguing with my legs for a while, we finally decided to settle into a pace and forget about trying to cross the finish in under 3:40. (my legs were just too stubborn for me that day) I never thought I'd be so happy to see Central Park. At this point you are half way through mile 24.... so kind of on the homestretch, but not quite. Soon enough, I was running up the last uphill on the course and getting ready to descend onto the finish. I finished the NYC Marathon in 3:45. I believe that is my fastest marathon outside of the old Motorola Marathon course. So I'll take it.

Here are two of the race pics:

NYC Marathon
I got my race number... F2032

What does that mean?? Here's what the handbook says,

"The fastest 9,000 female runners based on best or predicted times will be assigned
“F” numbers, to be positioned at the front of the orange start. Any man found
running with these women at the start will be disqualified."

Yippee... I will be up towards the front and on the top bridge!! SWEET!

This taper has really been nice...can't wait for race day!

Dinner w/ tennisboy
Tennis Boy will be out of town for ITA All American Championships starting Friday and probably not come back till next Sunday. Then I leave on Monday for Hawaii. We went to a nice dinner last night at Eddie V's (up north). So we both got dressed up and spent the evening overlooking 360. Nothing finishes off a dinner like the Godiva Molten Lava Cake Mmmmm.

Yummy!

Dinner
I made dinner tonight:

Chipolte Pork Chops
Smoked Gouda Polenta
Kick-Ass Salad

All was good, but I made the pork chops toooo spicy for my mexican taste buds. Whoops. oh well. It was fun.

I am waiting for my new pots and pans to come in so I can make a couple of Spanish (Espana) Dishes.

spinklers!
This morning I decided to test out my sprinkler system. I manually ran it this morning and it really rocks! I went ahead and set it up to run at 4:00am on Tuesdays. *yay*

Lawn care is much easier when you have a sprinkler system!

Cosas de Casa (house things)
Just in case anyone is wondering about my new home is doing, I've been busy trying to get things put in the right spot. My family did a great job of helping me move and unpack, but there were boxes in the garage that had stuff that belonged in the garage and boxes that had stuff for storage. I spent all day Sunday putting things away. My garage looks like part garage for my truck and part garage for my toys (bikes, accessories, climbing shoes...).

Since moving into my house, I've learned how to replace toilet seats and shower heads. I've also learned that Lowe's is the homeowners version of takeout. "I am going to Lowe's...need anything?" on the way home from a workout, "oooohhhh there's a Lowe's, I am sure there is something I need." hee hee

I think the only boxes left in my house are filled with cd/dvds and picture frames. I tossed my old cd/dvd holder to force myself to buy a new one and I don't want to put things on the walls until after I paint.

It's looking like the Housewarming party won't be until after the NYC marathon. Seriously, every weekend from here till the marathon is already booked. Whether it be races, weddings, or football!!!

I will be sure to take pictures this week of the house so curious folks can take a peek (since the house warming is a ways off).

Cornerstone 5k
To work on my speed and turnover for the NYC Marathon, my coach put the Cornerstone 5K on my schedule. I raced this 5K two years ago and ran it in about 23:53 and got 2nd in my AG.

My goal for this race was to to keep even splits. The first 1.5 miles is downhill and the last 1.5 miles is uphill. The course pops up by Westlake Highschool and continues on 360 (uphill). I felt in control of my pace and form for the entire race and even made sure to pass people on the uphill. I really don't think anyone passed me on the uphill section. (Thank you hill repeats)

So here are my results

Total Time: 23:00 7:22/M

Splits:
Mile 1: 6:52 (downhill)
Mile 2: 7:43 (uphill)
Mile 3: 7:45 (uphill)
.1 Mile: 00:41

1st in AG (out of 10)
7th Female (out of 108)
27th Overall (out of 236)

It was a good morning. After the run, I picked up my award, headed home and hopped on my bike for a 60 min spin. I also got to put the face to the LJ name at the race ... [info]whyiron :)

NYC Training and more
Last weekend was quite the weekend of training mixed in with ACL festivities.

Marathon training had me doing a total of 3:15 of running on Saturday morning, which included the lovely Scenice/Mt. Bonnell/Balcones/Hancock route tossed into my route for the date. I honestly love that route with all the hills. It's a great way to build strength for running longer distances.

As for ACL I learned a few things this year:
1) Crocs are great to wear for ACL; they don't make your feet blister
2) Starting the day off at noon with a stop at Baby A's on Barton Springs is great. Grab lunch, 2 purple margaritas and you are guaranteed to have a good solid buzz at least till 5:00pm. You don't have to buy any alcohol when you get to ACL. If you must, a beer will keep you solid till at least 7:00pm.
3) Old Men who have been in the busy for 50 years probably shouldn't be playing live shows. Bob, I know is a legend, but honestly, he's passed his prime. I didn't stay for Bob, but my friends did and they left after 3 songs.
4) Muse is freakin' awesome in concert. Very Awesome.
5) Victoria's Secret push up bra are great for smuggling in plastic baggies of hard liquor. ;-) Nick name was "boob juice" ha ha
6) Shade trees between to stages rock b/c you can listen to music and chill.

Skeese Greets Tri
I did the Skeese Greets Tri yesterday. My only goal was to finish the swim. If I met that goal, the rest would just be icing on the cake.

Result? The cake was iced very nicely.

Over All Place: 19/250
AG Place: 3/34
Swim: 14:04.0 Pace: 2:49/M (swam the longest possible route)
T1: 1:06.5
14.8mile Bike: 45:06.9 Average: 19.7mph
T2: 0:52.5
5K Run: 23:18.4 Average: 7:31/M
Total Time: 1:24:28.4

I even was very sneaky on the run. I had two girls in front of me who I knew were in my age group. Rather than pass them too early, I kept them in sight and gradually made up time on them. Then when we got close to the finish, maybe 100m away, I snuck up behind them and passed them both ;-) Hee hee. I love that kind of racing.

Not a bad race given the day before I went and ran about 10 miles which included the Scenic Loop.

Today I had another 75min run to day. Tomorrow is a rest day...thank goodness!

I am such a sap...
My Big Fat Greek Wedding was on tv tonight. I always cry at the end when the dad is giving the speech and then gives the new couple the deed to the house he and his wife bought. Every single freakin' time I start bawling.

Great Movie. It's funny and kind of reminds me of my big ol' family.

rest week
this week has been a rest week for my marathon training...it's been good since I had a house closing this week! Monday I got in my 30 minute ez run, Tuesday I got in my speed workout (run) and wednesday for the first time in a month I swam! I lucked out and got to go to barton springs. I still love that place.

today I got in my 30 min ez with strides at the end and then decided to go to Pure Austin for a spin workout. I didn't feel like driving to the texas iron bike workout especially knowing I could be done with my workout by the time their workout was starting. Good spin workout...

Tomorrow is a day off..so off I go to HH!!!

I am three weeks into my NYC Marathon Training. Last weekend I did my 2.5 hour run on the trail and this time I dind't get chased by horse flies. Before I ran out of the apartment, I sprayed myself from head to toe with OFF. I guess it worked.

I had a great run. I did 2 hours of the run on the green belt. I ran pretty far out on the trail and it was great. It's so nice to be able to run on the green belt as opposed to town lake b/c it's at least 5 degrees cooler and very shaded.

What else did I do this weekend? Friday night we all went to Malaga. Then Saturday night I went to a friend's 30th birthday and stayed out till 2:00am.

Sunday morning I was out at the Darndst Du at 6:00 ready to work the race for Advanced Rehab.

I close on my house in 2 days!!!!
